  • Milos is home to a large population of stray cats. While many are loved and fed by locals, thousands still face daily hardship, hunger, untreated illness, injury, repeated pregnancies and preventable suffering. Without intervention, colonies grow rapidly.

    A single unsterilised female cat can have multiple litters every year, with kittens able to begin to reproducing at just 4 months old despite her body still developing putting her at risk of complications, her body dividing nutrients between her own growth and developing litter resulting in malnutrition, stunted growth and life threatening health issues.

    A kitten is forced to have babies before her own body is prepared, increasing the risk of death for herself and her babies.

    This cycle quickly continues rapidly without intervention.

    Sterilisation / TNR helps by preventing unwanted litters reducing mating related stress and fighting, lowering disease spread, improving colony health and reducing long term suffering.

    For The Cats of Milos began with one simple but life changing moment: seeing suffering and choosing not to look away.

    After visiting Milos in 2025, it became impossible to ignore the reality many stray cats face every day, repeated pregnancies, preventable illness, untreated injuries and kittens being born into survival mode. Behind the beautiful beaches and postcard views was a heartbreaking reality.

    Our founder, Brittany started For The Cats of Milos with a vision to create meaningful, long term change for the island’s cats. What began as heart break after witnessing the realities of stray cats on Milos, has now grown into a registered charity focused on funding sterilisation, veterinary care, feeding support and a connecting with a community of supportive, like minded people from all over the world who had the same experience during their travels.

    We may be small, but we believe real change doesn’t always begin with large organisations. Sometimes it begins with one person deciding they can no longer look away.
