Brittany’s Story
It started with a holiday and it ended with a promise.
When we first arrived in Milos, we fell in love instantly. The island was everything we’d dreamed of the clear blue waters and the kindness of the locals, the whitewashed streets, the warm sun. But amidst all that beauty, we found something we couldn’t ignore.. The cats.
What began as small acts leaving food, filling water bowls, checking in on the cats near our accommodation soon became something deeper. We saw the quiet suffering that exists.
When tourist season ends, restaurants close, bins are locked, and the island grows silent. The same cats that are photographed and adored in summer are left hungry, cold, and struggling in winter. We couldn’t stop thinking about them.
And we couldn’t leave without trying to make a difference. Without the locals support, I can’t imagine how much worst this would be.
The Story of Fish..
During our visit to Sarakiniko Beach, we noticed a very boney and fatigued cat sitting along the shore. We went to check on him and make sure he was okay. We fed him, gave him some water and cared for him. He was so gentle natured. After he had some food he came straight up to me, and curled up on my lap and purred.
A local came up to us and mentioned how they love coming down and feeding the cats here which made my heart so happy. She told us before we had come fed him, he was trying to catch himself a fish to eat but sadly was too frail and weak to catch it. We named him Fish.
Fish touched my heart so deeply, we went back the next day to check on him and bring more food and water. Every day since my trip I have prayed and hoped our little Fish is okay, especially coming up to the harsher weather and quiet season.
A few days ago, we learned he’d sadly died from hypothermia and dehydration.
He never made it through the quiet season. That heartbreak became our turning point. We realised there were thousands more just like him, unseen and unprotected.
And that’s when For the Cats of Milos was born.
Our Mission
We created For the Cats of Milos to turn compassion into action, to bring lasting change for the island’s cats through:
TNR (Trap–Neuter–Return) programs to break the cycle of suffering
Feeding initiatives for the quiet season when food disappears
Medical support for sick or injured cats in partnership with the local vet
Education and awareness so locals and tourists alike know how to help responsibly
Our dream is a future where every cat in Milos is healthy, safe, and seen, no longer struggling to survive.
Every donation, every message, every person who cares keeps this movement alive.
When you support For the Cats of Milos, you’re not just helping animals, you’re helping rewrite their story.
From suffering to safety.
From silence to a voice.
A Voice, A Chance, A Future
